My work from the series ,"Menagerie" are a humorous approach to painting insects that are otherwise revolting and make me want to escape from any location that they may be in. I use bleach to paint on one side of a grey colored folded paper, press and reopen to discover delicate and ghostly symmetrical forms that resemble creepy, crawly, hairy and feathery creatures with fragile, long twiggy and bent legs. I then add white paint to incorporate pearl like details that highlight the forms and make them look like delicate renderings of fine jewelry. These insects personify humans and reveal an altered and more likeable interpretation of them.
